Je suis Charlie
Hi mom,
As you know, there was a terrorist attack in Paris two days ago. I am writing this to reassure you that I'm fine. The shooting happened in the 11th arrondissement in Paris.I live nowhere near there, so I am completely safe. If you don't already know, around 11:30am, two armed gunman (the third stayed in the car) entered the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and killed twelve people and injured 11 others. The day after, or yesterday, the two gunman were found and killed when they "came out firing". The third man turned himself in the same day. I was extremely sad to hear that people where killed just for exercising their freedom of speech. Although the comics were satire, as you'll see below, people did not deserve to die because their opinions cause conflict with others. While freedom of religion should exist, it only gives you the right to believe in your own religion without prosecution, not to force your beliefs on others. This means that while you may disagree with others that doesn't give anyone the right to harm people.
